Service Information
Carole Pagel, age 75, of Shakopee, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017, at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake, with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will held for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M., all at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake.
Everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the Church Fellowship Hall following the interment.
Obituary
Carole Janis Pagel was born April 27, 1942, in Glencoe, Minnesota, the daughter of Edwin and Lola (Wilkinson) Pagel. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith as a young adult at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. Carole grew up in Preston Lake Township near Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. She graduated as the Valedictorian with the Class of 1960 from the Buffalo Lake High School.
Carole received scholarships to continue her education at Macalester College in St. Paul, and graduated cum laude with marketing and economics degrees. She was employed with General Mills in Minneapolis for a few years before moving to St. Louis, Missouri. Carole then worked with Ralston Purina as a marketing research analyst until her retirement at age 55. At the age of 34 years, Carole was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her surgery and treatment removed the cancer, but left her with vision and mobility difficulties. Being very independent and determined, Carole persevered, and continued working and living on her own in St. Louis. It was then, while still working full time, Carole earned her Master’s Degree from St. Louis University by taking night classes. She also utilized her knowledge and experience by traveling throughout the United States giving marketing seminars. Her early retirement brought her back to Shakopee, Minnesota, where she joined her mother and sister Linda in the antique business. Carole did the bookkeeping, and shared the love they had for antiques.
Carole enjoyed traveling, going to movies, reading romance novels, and playing trivia games. She was frugal, but had a generous heart, giving to numerous charities, especially to veterans organizations and cancer research. Carole enjoyed cross stitching, was a Twins fan, and followed college basketball. She loved Christmas.
Early Friday morning, December 8, 2017, Carole passed away at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee, having reached the age of 75 years. Blessed be her memory.
Carole is survived by her brother, Winston Pagel and his wife, Kathy, of Woodbury, MN; sister, Linda Lund and her husband, Steven, of Shakopee, MN; niece, Stacy Lund, and nephew, Christopher Lund; great-nephews, Robert Cheney and Carter Cheney; other relatives and friends.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Lola Pagel.
