Ruth Lehrke, age 90, of Norwood Young America, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at The Haven in Norwood Young America, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, Minnesota, with interment following at the Mau Cemetery in Norwood Young America, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 12, 2018, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, Minnesota, and will continue one hour prior the service at the church on Saturday.
Ruth Hilma Theresa was born the daughter of Edward G. and Elsie (Fenske) Wolter on August 4th, 1927 at Young America, Minnesota.
Ruth was baptized on September 4th, 1927 at St. John’s Lutheran Church by Reverend M. F. Abraham. She attended school at Carver County District 41. Ruth was confirmed in her faith on April 6th, 1941 by Reverend Otto Vriessen at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church, Hamburg, Minnesota.
Ruth married Lester “Pete” Lehrke on July 18th, 1945 with Reverend Vriessen officiating. They made their home in Young America.
Ruth was employed at Strutwear, Telex, and Lehrke’s Grocery. She was also the Welcome Wagon representative for several years for local businesses welcoming new residents into the community.
Ruth was an avid gardener and an excellent cook and seamstress. She enjoyed her flowers and looked forward to Spring when her favorite little wren returned. Ruth would chirp and whistle to him and he would respond exactly the same. She enjoyed wallpapering and bus trips to many different destinations. She was proud to hold the first-ever Rummage Sale in Young America and the surrounding area after reading a magazine article about a woman holding a successful one in her state.
Ruth was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Altar Guild and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and regularly attended Bible classes.
She was proud to be a charter member of the Young America VFW Auxiliary Post #1783, contributing many hours of her time selling poppies and popping popcorn during Stiftungsfest and for the Young America baseball team at their home games. Ruth was also a member of the Willkommen Heritage and Preservation Society of Norwood Young America.
Ruth was called to her eternal rest on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 6 days.
Ruth is survived by her loving family:
daughters Sharilyn (husband Wayne) Feltmann of Young America, MN,
Shirley Jannusch of Surprise, AZ,
Susan (husband James “Butch”) Higgins of Sunsites, AZ,
Sandra Caldwell of Edina, MN;
grandchildren Ross and Ryan Feltmann, Matthew (wife Sharon) Jannusch, Christa (husband Joshua N.) Watson, and Alex Caldwell;
great-grandchildren Chase and Kayla Feltmann, Joshua C. Watson, and Luke Jannusch;
sister-in-law Ardes Lehrke;
other relatives and many friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Lester; parents, Edward and Elsie Wolter Sr.; brother, Edward “Sonny” Wolter Jr., and son-in-law, Tim Burlingame.
