Obituary
Brenda Marie (Luehring) Schoening was born March 13, 1940, to Arthur and Marie (Schwartz) Luehring in New Ulm, Minnesota. She was baptized as an infant on March 31, 1940, and was later confirmed as a youth on April 12, 1954, both at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Gibbon, Minnesota. Brenda attended grade school at St. Peter’s Lutheran in Gibbon and graduated from Buffalo Lake High School in 1958. She furthered her education with nurses training at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Brenda was united in marriage to Fredric Schoening on August 5, 1961 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with three children, John, Lisa and Ryan. Brenda and Rick resided in Buffalo Lake and shared 58 years of marriage together.
In addition to helping Rick farm, Brenda was employed at the Buffalo Lake Clinic, the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center, and the Home Bakery at various times over the years. She was an active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake, a member of the Zion Lutheran Church Women (ZLCW), a Sunday school teacher, and organist. Brenda was also a member of the Buffalo Lake-Hector School Board and Buffalo Lake Clinic Board.
Brenda enjoyed going to church and being involved in church activities. She loved music - especially playing the piano, organ, and trumpet - and she taught piano lessons for over four decades to many students in the community. She accompanied numerous soloists, ensembles, and choirs over the years. The greatest joy in Brenda’s life was her family. She cherished the time spent with them and with friends.
