Service Information
Donald Schauman, age 92, of Buffalo Lake, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Funeral Service will be Monday, January 21, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookfield Township, rural Hector, with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 20, 2019, from 4:00-7:00P.M. at the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector, and will continue on Monday at 10:00 A.M., for one hour prior to the service at the Church.
Arrangements are with Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector.
Obituary
Donald Arthur Schauman was born April 15, 1926 in rural Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, the son of Ferdinand and Elsie (Frank) Schauman. He was baptized on May 2, 1926 and confirmed on May 31, 1934 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. Donald graduated from Sleepy Eye High School on May 31, 1944.
On October 8, 1948, Donald was united in marriage to Irene Hamann in Mason City, Iowa. They made their home on a farm in Leavenworth Township southwest of Sleepy Eye for two years. They moved to the Cosmos – Buffalo Lake area where they farmed and lived for 58 years. Donald and Irene then moved into Cosmos in 2008. Their marriage was blessed with seven children. They had shared 63 years of marriage when Irene passed away on February 9, 2012. Donald made his home in Prairie View of Hector before moving to the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center on February 1, 2018.
In Donald’s younger years, he played baseball for the Leavenworth Orioles. He also enjoyed playing softball and going bowling. Donald was a faithful man. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookfield Township and had served in many capacities over the years, including the church council. Donald enjoyed farming and turned 160 acres into a profitable family farm. Most any farmyard animal at one time lived on the Schauman farm. Donald loved to fish and often fed his family doing what he enjoyed. After no longer having farm animals, special attention was given to the beautiful birds on the farm. Donald and Irene were both gardeners and their gardens fed them as well as many others! They made a great team and used the land to make this world a better place. Donald enjoyed playing cards and working on puzzles.
On Tuesday morning, January 15, 2019, Donald passed away at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center having reached the age of 92. Blessed be his memory.

Suzanne Macheledt and her Husband, Don, of Hector, Minnesota,
Ferd Schauman and his Wife, Cheryl, of Grove City, Minnesota,
Ann Ranzau and her Husband, Tom, of Glencoe, Minnesota,
Pamela Gentry of Hector, Minnesota, and
Rebecca Sjolander and her Husband, Lee, of Kenyon, Minnesota;
Son-in-law, Douglas Rath of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota;
17 Grandchildren; 19 Great-Grandchildren; one Great-Great-Granddaughter;
and by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Irene, Daughter Ruth Rath, two brothers, six sisters, and by his Great-Granddaughters Marissa and Emma.
