Obituary
Eva Maria (Mesquita de Silva) Klawitter was born on April 16, 1934, on São Jorge Island Azores, Portugal. She was the daughter of Olimpio Mesquita de Silva and Adeline Augusta. Eva was baptized as an infant, and grew up in the Catholic Faith. She received her education in São Jorge Island Azores, Portugal.
Eva was a member of the Red Cross, where she met, John Klawitter, a member of the American Air Force. They later married and moved to the United States of America and settled in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Eva and John later divorced.
Eva became a Naturalized US Citizen on January 20, 1960.
She worked at 3M in Hutchinson, retiring on September 1, 1990, after completing 33 years of service. Eva later worked at Hallmark Store, where she enjoyed her daily contact with customers. Eva was proud of her Portuguese heritage, and loved to talk about it.
Eva had a friendly outgoing personality and was an avid volunteer. She volunteered at Burns Manor Nursing Home and Harmony River Living Center, when Burns Manor transitioned to the new facility. It was there that she was recognized for her countless hours, when she was named Volunteer of the Year. Eva also volunteered at Grace Lutheran Church and the Hutchison Health, where she was granted a lifetime membership to the Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary.
Eva was an avid knitter, making blankets, scarves and hats. She knitted hundreds of baby hats, making sure every baby leaving the Hutchinson Health had a warm head. Eva bowled for many years, and loved attending the National Women’s Bowling Tournament in Reno, Nevada. She also loved to travel with friends and family.
Although Eva was not blessed with children of her own, she was an adopted Grandmother to many of her friends’ grandchildren. She loved spending time with them; attending birthday parties, holidays and going out to eat.
When Eva needed help with her daily care, she moved to Harmony River Living Center, where she passed away peacefully on October 7, 2018, at the age of 84 years.
