Service Information
Florence B. Fuglem, age 89, of Hector, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Augustana Dassel Lakeside Community Home in Dassel.
Funeral Service will be Friday, January 30, 11:00 A.M. at the Vineyard United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.
Interment will be in the Brookfield Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Obituary
Florence Blanche Fuglem was born June 13, 1925, in Boon Lake Township, Renville County, Minnesota, the daughter of Charles and Blanche (Hodgdon) Simmons. She was baptized into her faith as an infant, and later confirmed. Florence grew up in Boon Lake Township where she attended country school. She continued her education at the Teachers College in Hutchinson, and went on to teach in a one-room country school with six grades. Florence was later employed as a teachers aid at the Buffalo Lake Hector School.
On June 13, 1946, Florence was united in marriage to Perl Fuglem at the Churchill Methodist Church in Brookfield Township. They made their home in the area known as Churchill in Brookfield Township where they raised their son David and daughter Becky. They shared 63 years of marriage before Perl passed away on January 23, 2010. Florence continued to live on the farm, spending her last two months at the Augustana Dassel Lakeside Community Home.
Florence was a member of the Churchill Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church in Cosmos before those churches closed. She was an active member in those churches, and was one of the ladies in the Churchill Ladies Aid that started the famous Chicken Pie Supper. She became a member of the Vineyard United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. Florence enjoyed attending auctions, garage sales, and flea markets.
Early Saturday morning, January 24, 2015, Florence passed away at the Augustana Dassel Lakeside Community Home, having reached the age of 89 years. Blessed be her memory.
Florence is survived by her:
Son, David Fuglem and his wife Mary of Duluth;
Daughter, Becky Rogers and her husband Val of Hutchinson;
Grandchildren: Travis Rogers (Casandra), Ryan Rogers, Brad Rogers, Jason Rogers, Josh Fuglem (Genelle), Lynn Newman, and Brenda Peipus;
Great-grandchildren: Mercedes Fuglem, Marcellus Thompson, and Beau Rogers;
Sister-in-law Dorothy Simmons of Brookings, South Dakota;
and by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband Perl, and her brother Calvin Simmons.
