Obituary
James “Jim” Schiro was born August 17, 1943, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, Minnesota; the son of Orin “Bud” and Gladys (Phillips) Schiro. Jim was baptized on August 29, 1943, and confirmed in his faith on June 25, 1956, both at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hector, Minnesota. Jim spent his childhood in Hector and graduated from Hector High School on May 30, 1961.
Jim entered the Army National Guard on November 12, 1963. He received the Marksman Badge and the Rifle M-1 Badge. Jim was Honorably Discharged on June 29, 1969.
On October 3, 1964, Jim married Margie Robinson. During this marriage, Jim was blessed with two children, Randy and Kim. In 1969, Jim began his lifelong career at 3M in Hutchinson where he worked until his retirement in 2002.
On May 10, 1986, Jim was united in marriage to Carolyn (Blum) Schiro at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart. Jim and Carolyn made their home together in Hutchinson until 2005 and most recently in Glencoe. For the past five years; Jim and Carolyn have “summered” at the River’s Edge campground in Becker, Minnesota; and have “wintered” for the past three years in Yuma, Arizona.
Throughout his life, Jim was an avid fan of all sports; but especially our Minnesota teams. Family and friends were Jim’s priorities and spending time with them was his favorite pastime. Camping, fishing, playing cards, bean bags, throwing darts and having coffee with “the guys” filled his recent days with much laughter and good memories. Jim will be remembered for many things but most of all, perhaps, for his selfless generosity and willingness to help anyone.
Jim passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019, at Hennepin County Medical Center after having suffered a head injury during a fall that day, at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 2 days. In keeping with how he lived his life, Jim became an organ donor and gave others the gift of life as his final earthly act. Blessed be his memory.

Gary Scholla says
I was sadden to hear of Jim’s passing. Several months ago, as I was coming through Glencoe, I attempted to call Jim at home. I was not successful. What I remember about Jim is that we attended
the same school in Hector and graduated in 1961. We also played baseball on the varsity team coached by Bob Hage. I can recall some of Jim’s behavior when we were classmates. Jim always had a smile on his face, he was very easy going and he did share himself with his many friends. I am
very thankful for having the opportunity of crossing Jim’s life’s journey. Carol, may God’s comfort, strength and love be with you!
