Obituary
Joe was born on November 24, 1948 to Joseph and Rita Maiers. He attended grade school at St. Boniface, graduating from the 8th grade in 1962, moving onto High School in Stewart and graduating with the class of 1966. Joe’s college days brought him to Willmar Area Vo-Tech, graduating in 1968 with a degree in Ag Science.
Joe was a very savvy business man with great leadership qualities. After graduation he started roots in Hector, working for Custom Farm Services and Midwest Bean Co. During this time, he was also the Mayor for the City of Hector. Through connections there, he moved onto Albaugh Chemical in Jamestown, ND, a manager for Custom Ag in Riceville, IA and then back to his home town of Stewart to sell commodities and farm with his brother Larry. He then took on the opportunity to be the Controller for Minnesota Beef in Buffalo Lake. In 1995 he and Connie moved to Orlando, Florida. Miller Miller & Mac, Inc. was a concrete contracting company he managed with his brother, Jerry. The two also started Subfloor Systems, and Maiers Systems, Inc.
After living in Florida for eight years, in 2003 Joe and Connie moved back to Minnesota, making their home once again in Stewart. Not really one to sit around, Joe took on Financial Controller jobs at the South Side Gas Station in Stewart and worked with his friend Charles Mellies at Metro Erosion in Shakopee, MN. Retirement was never really in his make-up, always doing something to stay active. Joe was the Gambling Manager and a very active member of the Stewart Lion’s Club, and the Jaycees. Joe and Connie ran the Lion’s food shack for many summers, providing a great service to the community during many ball games for the Lion’s while also getting to watch the grandkids play ball as they grew up. It was so much fun to be able to sit in the shack with them. The grandkids thought it was great to “have connections” and be able to get what they needed because Grandpa would start “a tab” for them until the end of the games! There are a lot of memories made and great conversations had at the Stewart Lion’s Ballfield. Joe loved volunteering his time to whatever was needed, and Connie was always by his side, doing it together.
But the best memories were made around the table and at family gatherings on holiday’s and other special occasions. There was much preparation and love happening in the kitchen beforehand, all the food that was made and the treats that were baked were something Joe truly enjoyed doing with Connie by his side.
After a wonderful evening of visiting and being surrounded by his loving family, Joe passed away peacefully the next morning of May 18th, 2018, having reached the age of 69 years, 5 months, and 24 days.
Having shared 28 years together, Joe is survived by his wife, Connie Maiers of Stewart, Brad (Susan) Krumrey of Buffalo Lake, and Brian (Sue) Krumrey of Hector. Grandchildren - Kori (Ryan), Ahron (Jenn), Kayla, Kaitlyn, Mitchell, Dakota, and Wyatt Krumrey; great grandchildren - Ryley, Brooklyn, Madden, Kalby, Shea, Brennen, and Paislie; and by his two daughters, Melissa and Miranda and three grandsons. Joe is also survived by his sister Rose Norman, and brothers Mike, Tim, Greg (Carol), Larry (Carol), Jerry (Deb), and Chuck Maiers, and several nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Rita Maiers, sister-in-law Linda (Mike) Maiers, and his grandson, Austin Krumrey.
