Lorena Boelter, age 93, of Hutchinson, formerly of Cosmos, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Hutchinson Health.
Funeral Service will be Monday, November 16, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos, with interment in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 9:30 – 11:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos.
Obituary
Lorena Geneve Boelter was born September 22, 1922, as a twin daughter to August and Sophie Steffel at Lodgepole, Nebraska. The family moved from Nebraska to Minnesota when she was around two years old, to be with other family members. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos on November 26, 1944.
Lorena was united in marriage to Edwin Boelter on October 16, 1944 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos. The couple lived and farmed north of Hector for several years before purchasing their farm south of Cosmos. Lorena stayed on the farm after Edwin passed away until the fall of 2008. She then moved to the Cosmos Nursing Home for a while before moving to Burns Manor, now known as Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Lorena loved her flowers, especially her African Violets. She was skilled in sewing, crocheting, knitting hats and scarves and many other items, afghans, and making bread sack rugs. She loved to draw, and won her first Blue Ribbons at the county fair while at Burns Manor for her drawing. She always kept busy with her hands.
Lorena died on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She lived to reach the age of 93 years. Blessed be her memory.
Lorena is survived by her:
Children: June Mickelson and her husband Russell of Andover, Minnesota, and Allen Boelter and companion Deb of Anthony, Kansas;
Grandchildren: Joy Mickelson, Julie Ann Held and her husband Jacob, and Jessica Knapp;
Brothers: LaVerne Steffel and his wife Alyce of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Duane Vinar and his wife Alice of Watkins;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Lorena was preceded in death by her Husband Edwin, Parents Sophie and August, Children Suzanne and David, Sisters Dorothy Hacker and Evelyn Messen-Brink, and Brothers Donald Steffel and his twin brother.
