Obituary
Marilyn Doris Briard was born on October 20, 1944, at Union Hospital, New Ulm, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Arthur and Mildred (Lilienthal) Bentz. She was the oldest twin, by five minutes, and grew up on a farm in Moltke Township in rural Gibbon along with her five siblings. Marilyn was baptized as an infant on November 5, 1944, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 30, 1958, both at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Moltke Township, Gibbon, MN. She received her education first from St. Peter’s Lutheran Parochial School, then completing it at Gibbon High School, graduating in the Class of 1962. She was a proud 4-H member, and was also proud to lead the Gibbon High School Marching Band down streets with her twin as majorettes. She continued her education attending nursing school at New Ulm, MN.
On November 23, 1963, Marilyn was united in marriage to Lance Briard at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Moltke Township. After they married the couple settled on the Briard Family Farm south of Gaylord. They were blessed with three children. Marilyn was very proud of her nursing profession. She was employed as an LPN at the Gaylord Hospital from 1963 until it closed in 1989. She then worked at Arlington Hospital, and lastly at the Gaylord Nursing Home, retiring on August 31, 2009. Marilyn and Lance shared 57 years of marriage. Marilyn was a member of Norwegian Grove Lutheran Church in Sibley Township, Gaylord, and was active in Ladies Aid.
Marilyn enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, gardening, and sudoku puzzles. She loved baking and was known for her cinnamon rolls, lefse and krumkake. She enjoyed sewing, making many “mommy & me” outfits for her and her oldest daughter during early years. She took the original Briard Christmas Tree Skirt and duplicated it, hand stitching one for each of her children using a piece from the original. She also sewed matching Christmas stockings. Marilyn cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with family throughout the years, along with taking many bus trips with friends. With all her travels, she was able to see much of the United States and Canada. The kind and caring demeanor Marilyn presented will be remembered by many with fondness.
