Obituary
Merelyn Kiecker was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1924, at her parent’s home in rural Fairfax. She was the daughter of Fred and Stella (Black) Deterling. Merelyn was baptized as an infant on March 2, 1924, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, rural Fairfax, and was later confirmed in her Christian faith as a youth on May 15, 1938, by Reverend E.G. Fritz.
On February 16, 1944, Merelyn was united in marriage to Laurence Kiecker at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township. They began their life together in the newly constructed house on their farm in Wellington Township. They were blessed with two sons, Laurel and Gregry. In 1978, they moved to Fairfax. Merelyn and Laurence shared 59 loving years together farming side by side. On August 8, 2003, Laurence passed away and left Merelyn to continue to farm which she did for seven more years, even though she considered herself retired. With grace and dignity, she resided at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. She was cared for by a compassionate staff until her death on December 19, 2019, reaching the age of 95 years, 10 months, and 5 days.
Merelyn and Laurence loved to travel by car, by ship and by air plane. Their destinations took them around the world. Merelyn was always the center of Laurence’s motion picture camera as he recorded each and every trip for the children and grandchildren to cherish forever.
