Monica Kamps, age 90, of Waconia, Minnesota, formerly of Norwood Young America, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in Waconia, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in rural Hamburg, Minnesota, with interment following at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in rural Hamburg, Minnesota. A prayer service will be at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior the service at the church on Thursday.
Obituary
Monica Dorothy (Panning) Kamps was born on March 29, 1928, in Washington Lake Township, rural Sibley County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Albert and Mary (Oelfke) Panning. Monica was baptized as an infant on April 8, 1928, by Rev. H. J. Bouman at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota, and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 29, 1942 by Rev. W. P. Kraemer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Her confirmation verse was 1Timothy 6:12. Monica received her education at Sibley County District #27 School, St. John’s Lutheran Church School in Norwood Young America, Minnesota, and then graduating from Central High School with the Class of 1946.
On March 13, 1948, Monica was united in marriage to Willard Kamps by Rev. L. Wohlfiel at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota. In February of 1955, Monica and Willard made their home on a farm in Benton Township south of Bongards. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Linda, LaJean and Randy. Monica and Willard shared over 50 years of marriage until Willard passed away on February 1, 1999. Monica remained on the farm until March of 2005 when she moved to Norwood Young America.
Before her marriage, Monica worked at Strutwear in Glencoe. In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, she worked with Willard on the farm and helped drive gravel truck. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in rural Hamburg.
Monica enjoyed reading, embroidering, quilting, sewing, dancing and going out to eat. She treasured the time spent with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Monica passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Waconia, Minnesota, at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 7 days.
