Obituary
Nicholas (Nick) Riley Larson, age 31, was born October 28, 1988, in Mankato, MN, to Mark and Lisa (Pfeil) Larson. Nick was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He spent the first 14 months of his life in Pemberton, MN, before moving to Glencoe, MN, with his parents in December, 1989. Nick grew up in Glencoe and the Glencoe area, graduating from Glencoe Silver Lake High School in 2007. While in high school, Nick participated in football and wrestling, and was always the class clown. Highlights of his wrestling career included a fourth place in Sections in his Junior year and All Conference-honorable mention during his Senior year. Nick was the most improved wrestler twice in his career and hardest worker during his Senior year. During high school summers, Nick worked for the City of Glencoe as a lifeguard at the Aquatics Center as well as in the Parks Department. Nick tried his hand at racing motorcycles and 4-wheelers and had success at the McLeod County Fair.
After high school, Nick worked in Glencoe for Archer Daniels Midland, in their feed department. He furthered his career in Feed and Grain by working for the Hutchinson Cooperative in the Agronomy Division and became a Commercial Route Driver and Field Applicator. When the opportunity came up, Nick became a Maintenance operator, plow driver, and pool operator for the City of Glencoe Parks Department. He was currently employed by the City of Glencoe. He also enjoyed farming with Sanken Farms.
Nick was head over heels for the Love of his Life, Amanda Johnson, and they were married on June 4, 2015. Olivia May and Levi Frances Larson were born soon afterward. Nick loved being a dad and loved his kids with all his heart. He was always happy to share funny pictures and videos of his kids. Nick was a proud resident of Brownton and took great pride in his property, especially his yard. Amanda would joke that he was a yard Nazi.
Nick was the life of every party and enjoyed being with all of his great friends either hunting, fishing, or hanging around his garage talking smart. He enjoyed many trips to North and South Dakota, hunting ducks, geese, and pheasants. When Nick lost the sight in his right eye due to an accident, he learned to shoot left handed. Nick shot his first deer left handed with a patch on his right eye shortly after an eye surgery.
Growing up, he enjoyed his time at Lake Lizzie with Grandma and Grandpa Larson; and, more recently at Big Stone Lake with his friends and family. Nick was a trickster and master of one liners, and always had something funny to say.
Nick struggled during the last couple years with depression and demons that he could not control. He could not overcome the trials of dealing with depression. He tried to mask this, but lost his hard fought battle on April 1, 2020. Nick’s friends and family meant the world to him and he treasured their support and efforts to help him, with all of his heart.
Nick touched more lives in 31 years than most people would in a lifetime. Nick chose to engage people with conversation and laughter. Nick’s natural ability to make everyone around him feel like they mattered, while putting his feelings aside. Please remember Nick through the thousands of stories and laughs. Losing his battle with depression, Nick leaves behind his wife, Amanda, daughter, Olivia and son, Levi. He also is survived by his mom, Lisa Tschimperle, and his dad and mom, Mark and Debra Larson; his siblings Kacie (Eric Small) and Samuel (Tannica) Larson, Jayden (Carly Worman) and Madison Tschimperle, Tyler (Sherry) Sonsalla, and Melissa (Jeremy Atkins) Sonsalla; Former stepdad, Scott Tschimperle, Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Terry and LaDonna (Posusta) Johnson, and Sister-in-law Allison Johnson; also, nieces and nephews, Emma, Booker, Cole, Nils, Luella, Milo and Jubilee. His Grandparents, Milo and Marge Larson, Emma Davis, and Delores Pfeil. Also, aunts and uncles, Carolyn and Chrissy Larson, Donald Davis, Mike and Barb Pfeil, Sharon Dexheimer, and Mark Pfeil. And, also many cousins and so many dear and loving friends. Nick is preceded in death by his Grandfathers, Clarence Davis and Eldor Pfeil.
