Norman Benkowski, age 88, of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, with interment following at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lester Prairie, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2018, from 10:00-11:00 A.M., one hour prior the service at the church
Obituary
Norman Herman Benkowski was born on February 6, 1930, in Glencoe, Minnesota. He was the son of Albert and Gertrude (Vogt) Benkowski. Norman was baptized as an infant on February 23, 1930, by Rev. E. Kolbe at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 2, 1944, by Rev. A. F. Vomhof at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota. His confirmation verse was 1 John 5:4. Norman received his education in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, graduating with the Lester Prairie High School Class of 1948. He entered active military service in the United States Army on September 29, 1951, and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He received an Honorable Discharge on July 4, 1953.
On June 20, 1958, Norman was united in marriage to Majel Harms at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Township, Cologne, Minnesota. Norman and Majel made their home in Lester Prairie, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Randi and Rhonda. Norman and Majel shared over 60 years of marriage.
Norman worked as a carpenter at various construction companies including Birkholz Construction. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Norman was also a member of the Lester Prairie American Legion Post #463.
Norman enjoyed watching television especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He also loved watching high school basketball games, reading and listening to old time music. Norman treasured the time spent with family and friends.
When Norman needed assistance with his daily care, he became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 18 days.

Norman is preceded in death by his Parents, Albert and Gertrude Benkowski; Father-In-Law & Mother-In-Law, Fred and Ella Harms; Brothers-In-Law and Sister-In-Law, Maynard and Enid Harms, Mervin Harms, Dennis Lenzen; Grandson-In-Law, Dustin Michaelis.
