Obituary
Raymond Ernest Meyer was born on December 5, 1932, in New Ulm, Minnesota. He was the son of Ernest and Helen (Kramer) Meyer. Ray was baptized as an infant on December 25, 1932, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 14, 1946, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, where he continued as a life-long member and held several offices including president. He received his education in Gaylord.
Ray served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, where he met Gisela, his wife of 63 years. They farmed in rural Gaylord for many years. A self-taught electronics technician, Ray began to work in Gaylord in the TV repair business in the 1970’s. He later had a 25 year career teaching at the Northwestern Electronics Institute in Minneapolis.
Ray was an avid outdoorsman and gardener, and he and Gisela spent many retirement years camping, taking canoe trips, and creating breathtaking gardens on the farm. Even trees were a garden crop for Ray, and at their harvest he turned them into lumber on his grandfather Dietrich Meyer’s old saw mill that he spent years restoring.
When he needed assistance with his daily care, Ray became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Arlington and passed away there on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at the age of 85 years. Blessed be his memory.
