Obituary
Roland John Johnson "Stub" was born on December 10, 1921 in Havelock (Rush Lake Twp. – Palo Alto County), Iowa. Stub served in the US Naval Reserve and has been a member of The American Legion since 1946.
Stub and Phyllis Stafford were married on April 16, 1944 in Hector, MN. This past year they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They devoted their lives to their children and grandchildren. Many a night was spent watching their offspring play football, basketball, baseball, soccer and wrestling.
Stub loved horses and rode in the Minnesota Golden Horse Riders for several years. Father's Day has been celebrated each year enjoying the family and horse races at Canterbury Downs. In his early years Stub enjoyed flying, with his first solo flight being June 24, 1945 with the Hector Flying Service.
After retiring from farming, Stub and Phyllis became snowbirds, escaping the cold Minnesota winters for the warm Arizona sun. They enjoyed their time in Mesa, AZ very much, joining up with high school friends and relatives from Havelock, Mallard, and Curlew, Iowa.
Stub is survived by his wife Phyllis, four sons, Dennis (Sharon), Galen (Ann), Steven (Judy) and Jay (Doreen), a brother, Eugene (Chris), sister-in-law Jane Johnson, and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ella (Rouse) Johnson, and a brother Garner (Jane) and sister Normadeane (Duane).
A special thank you to the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center for their loving care and support.
