Obituary
Kenneth Herbert Mackenthun was born on January 3, 1932, in Hamburg, Minnesota. He is the son of Annie W. (Oelfke) and Edward D. Mackenthun. Kenneth was baptized as an infant on January 10, 1932, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 21, 1946, both at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota. He attended Emanuel Lutheran School and was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1950.
On June 6, 1953, Kenneth was united in marriage to Marilyn Bentz at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota. They made their home in Plato, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with 4 sons, Jeff, James, Randy, and Rod. Kenneth and Marilyn shared over 65 years of marriage.
Kenneth was a lifelong farmer. He was a lifetime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota, where he served as a trustee and elder. He was a lifetime member of the Glencoe VFW Post #5102.
Kenneth enjoyed his time outdoors and his profession as a farmer allowed him to spend plenty of time there. He took pride in raising his family and in doing so made certain that both his faith and work ethics were instilled in his boys. In his spare time – he would relish the opportunity to get a round or two of Sheephead or 500 in – take your pick, he was up for it! He also enjoyed the occasional Twins games, Sunday polka music and a good old fashion Clint Eastwood western. His most cherished time though was spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Kenneth passed away on Monday August 27, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 24 days. He will be dearly missed. Blessed be his memory.

Marilyn and family, So sorry to hear of Kenny’s passing. We had some good times with your family growing up. May the Good Lord help you through this difficult time and just know that he is in a better place. Probably playing Sheephead with mom & dad. Sorry we won’t be able to make the service. Me and all my brothers are heading up north for the weekend.

Marilyn,
I wish you God’s peace and the comfort His Spirit can bring as the days ahead will be different. You have spent many hours caring for Kenneth and our Lord saw the service you gave him. As time goes by, trust in God’s power to fill your days with other tasks and purposes to enable you to be fulfilled in serving.
I am sorry I did not hear about his death until Tuesday. I looked on the church web site and did not see who died. I had only seen the dug grave but did not know for whom it was dug. (As I think of you and your helping Kenneth I can’t help but remember the service you also gave to my parents and the many funerals for which you served. I really appreciated that help.) May our Lord enable you in the days ahead to keep a focus on God’s love for you and Kenneth. May the great reunion in heaven fill us with hope and joy.
