Obituary
Mildred Louise (Schuth) ZumHofe was born June 12, 1929, in Glencoe, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Henry and Frances (Templin) Schuth. Mildred was baptized as an infant on July 7, 1929, and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 29, 1942, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helen Township, rural Glencoe, Minnesota. Her confirmation verse was Matthew 6:33. Mildred received her education in Glencoe, Minnesota, graduating with the Glencoe High School Class of 1946.
On June 4, 1948, Mildred was united in marriage to Harold ZumHofe. Mildred and Harold made their home on a farm outside of Plato, Minnesota. Mildred and Harold were blessed with four children, Kathleen, Dennis, Judy and LuAnn. They shared over 71 years of marriage.
Before marriage Mildred worked at a law office in Glencoe. When her children were born, Mildred stayed at home, helping on the farm. After the children were grown, she worked for a short time at the Glencoe Public Schools before beginning to clean homes in the metro area. She enjoyed all the families she worked for and the time spent visiting in the car pool. Mildred was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, where she was active in the LWML. She was also a member of a local Home Extension Group that continued to get together many years.
Mildred was a wife and mother that always put her family first. When they were sick or saddened, she hurt too and when they found joy and blessings, she rejoiced along with them. Every holiday was a celebration with much more food than could be eaten. Mildred was never happier than when surrounded by her family.
God blessed Mildred with a green thumb. She always had a large garden that produced fresh food for the summer and extra to can. Mildred found special joy in her flowers. She added plant by plant by plant until the whole farm yard was surrounded. The day she died her peonies were in full bloom and God took her home to view them from heaven.
Mildred passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 90 years and 6 days. She will be remembered with love in their hearts by a family that will miss her dearly.
Blessed be her memory.
