Ruth Goodridge, age 90, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment at Mau Cemetery in Norwood Young America, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2016, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., one hour prior the service at the church.
Obituary
Ruth Lydia Anna (Schmidt) Goodridge was born on November 25, 1925, in Carver County, rural Norwood, Minnesota, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Hedtke) Schmidt. She was baptized as an infant by Rev. Abraham and was later confirmed in her faith on April 2, 1939, by Rev. W.P. Kramer both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Ruth received her education at St. John’s Lutheran School and Central High School in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. She graduated in June of 1943, as Salutatorian. Ruth furthered her education by attending Glencoe Teacher Training from 1943-1944. She earned a Master of Arts Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Ruth was a member of the honor societies, Phi Beta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi and Delta Kappa Gamma.
On October 19, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage to Marvin Goodridge by Pastor W.P. Kramer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Ruth made her home in Norwood Young America, Minnesota, Lake Forrest, Illinois and Glencoe, Minnesota.
After graduation from Glencoe Teacher Training, Ruth taught country school in Districts #47 and #50 in Carver County, Minnesota. In July of 1951, she moved to Lake Forrest, Illinois and taught school there from 1955-1973. Ruth joined the Glencoe Public School System in 1974. She received the Superintendents Recognition award in 1989 and retired in 1990 with a total of 41 years in education.
Ruth enjoyed writing poetry, writing poems based on personal experiences and for special occasions. One of her favorites was “Morning”. The poem was included in the collection of “Great Poets of the Western World”.
Due to an injury, Ruth became a resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe. She passed away there on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 26 days.

Close Friends, Linus & Joan Groenke of Glencoe, MN,
Gary & Linda Rehmann of Lester Prairie, MN;
Several godchildren, other relatives and friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her Parents, Otto and Emma Schmidt; Brother, Roy Schmidt.
